Turin, 5 May 2009 - This morning at the Quirinale, the Italian President, Giorgio Napolitano, welcomed Pietro Boroli, Chairman of UTET, Marco Castelluzzo, General Manager of UTET, and historian Giuseppe Galasso, author and editor of "La Storia del Regno di Napoli".
During the meeting, the five-volume work, published by UTET, was presented to the Italian President. The work covers the history of Southern Italy from the Middle Ages (1266) until the Unification of Italy (1860).
"La Storia del Regno di Napoli" is an authoritative work, and the result of years of scientific research that enabled Giuseppe Galasso, professor emeritus at Federico II University in Naples, to analyse and interpret existing and little-known sources in an innovative manner and to create a detailed reconstruction of life in the Kingdom of Naples, in relation to which he provides a description of events and an accurate cross-section of society and its institutions. The final volume, entitled "Societ‡ e cultura del Mezzogiorno moderno (1501-1860)" will complete the work by the end of the year.
These volumes, totalling over five thousand pages, make a significant contribution to the body of knowledge on Italy and the roots of its culture.
"Being a publisher today," Pietro Boroli stressed, "is a fascinating challenge and demanding endeavour, which at times requires us to make difficult and courageous decisions. The 'publisher’s trade' compels us to truly believe in what we are doing, to be consistent and to ensure the continuity of traditional values. The publication of this work, written by one of the most renowned scholars in Italy, underscores our publishing house’s desire to continue to produce works of the highest quality which bear witness to the grandeur of our past, which we must keep alive in the present and future."
